Levothyroxine, the active ingredient in Synthroid D and Synthroid I, is a synthetic thyroid hormone produced by the body. These medications are used to replace the body’s natural thyroid hormone, which is not needed to make thyroid hormone. The thyroid hormone is a hormone that helps to keep your body working properly.
The inactive ingredients in Synthroid D, Synthroid-I, and Synthroid-S include:
The generic name of the medication is Levothyroxine Sodium
Levothyroxine is a synthetic hormone that is made by the body, and it is produced by the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland makes up about 80% of the body’s natural hormone. This hormone helps the body to make thyroid hormones, which are needed to keep the thyroid working.
Levothyroxine Sodium is available as a generic medication for both branded and generic levothyroxine products.
There are also differences between generic and brand-name levothyroxine-containing products.
For example, levothyroxine Sodium is produced by the manufacturer, Synthroid, and is also available in the brand-name product.
Synthroid tablets 100mcg are used to treat hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone (thyroxine) needed to regulate your body’s growth and metabolism. Hypothyroidism can be idiopathic (of unknown cause) or congenital as in the case of the autoimmune disease Hashimoto's thyroiditis, where the thyroid gland is destroyed by the immune system; it can also be the result of thyroid surgery. Synthroid tablets 100mcg are also used to treat thyroid goitre, which is an enlarged thyroid gland caused by extreme growth of thyroid tissue to compensate for lack of thyroid hormone; also to treat thyroid cancer. Synthroid tablets 100mcg are a replacement hormone to relieve the symptoms of hypothyroidism, including, tiredness, muscle weakness, cramps, feeling the cold, a slow heart rate, dry and flaky skin, hair loss, a deep husky voice and weight gain.
Synthroid tablets 100mcg are a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing blood to flow into the penis when you get sexually excited and causing it to grow. It may take a few months for the blood vessels to relax and allow blood to flow into the penis, causing an erection.

For men with levels of hypothyroidism (low levels of a hormone that causes the thyroid gland to go bad) it is important to, especially if you experience any of the following symptoms after taking thyroid medicine:
Both Levothyroxine and Synthroid are generally safe and well-tolerated oral medications. However, your pharmacist and doctor may actually prefer one over the other, depending on your doctor's advice.
For women with levels of hypothyroidism (low levels of a hormone that causes the thyroid gland to go bad) and you have been taking levothyroxine for about an year, the drug Synthroid or levothyroxine may be more effective at treating the primary cause of your symptoms. For men who have symptoms such as abundance of menstrual bleeding, heart disease, or low sperm count, or who are at a higher risk of adverse reactions, the drug Synthroid or levothyroxine may be a better option.
For men who are hypothyroid (high levels of a hormone that causes the thyroid gland to go bad, meaning they have been unable to develop men of any age-related genetic factors, or thyroiditis, experienced hypothyroidism), the two medications may be more appropriate:
For women with levels of hypothyroidism and thyroid antibodies (that are similar to the hormone levels) it is important to rule out any medical conditions you may have to treat your thyroid disease even if there are no symptoms:
For men who are hypothyroid (high levels of thyroid hormone) and have had thyroid hormone antibodies before (but still requiring supplementation), the two thyroid hormone replacement medications may be more appropriate:
For men who are hypothyroid and have thyroid antibodies (not requiring supplementation) it is important to rule out any medical conditions you may have to treat your thyroid disease:
For men who are hypothyroid and have antibodies to thyroid hormone refractory to either Levothyroxine or Synthroid, it is recommended to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking either medication.
Walmart's prices are significantly higher than those of some of the cost-prohibitors like Lariam or similar medications. Because Levothyroxine and Synthroid are cost-prohibitors, they will not treat all thyroid conditions (or any thyroid disease) and will not reduce the growth of thyroid cells based on the dose of medication.
